Hyatt Centric or Sheraton New Orleans?

In this review I am compare the Hyatt Centric and the Sheraton by Marriott.  These hotels are a few blocks away from each other on Canal Street.  Although both are nice properties, there are some pros and cons to each that may help you decide between the two.

Both are on the fringe of the French Quarter although the Hyatt entrance is on a side street that is actually in the French Quarter.

The Bottom Line

All things considered, I would recommend the Hyatt Centric over the Sheraton.  For me, the overall experience at the Hyatt Centric was better, including the friendliness of the staff, the elite status recognition and the decor.  However, if you find a good cash or point redemption at the Sheraton, or if you are attending a conference and prefer a business environment, the Sheraton is a good option.

Pros

Cons

  • TIP:  When you make your reservation, or when you check-in, ask for a higher floor on the quieter side of the hotel.

Sheraton

This property is touted by Marriot as a “family-friendly” hotel near the French Quarter (is that an oxymoron?)  It is an adequate hotel in a good location, but lacks any special features to make it stand out.

Travel Tips

  • Ask for rooms on a higher floor if you have any level of status.
  • Parking can be expensive in the French Quarter, consider skipping the rental cars unless you plan to drive out of the central area.
